Great movies in April and May, rip-roaring music festivals in June and July, and blockbuster events in August are all coming to Chicago in 2024.

April

April’s a great month for Chicago movie-lovers, with dozens of film festivals covering nearly every genre you can imagine.

Sci-fi fans can enjoy their Juggernaut Film Festival starting April 21st, and Asian Pop-up Cinema is going through its eighteenth season right now too. You can catch new talent at Cineyouth, which is completely free to the public and starts April 19th. There’s no shortage of action early in the month either, with the Chicago Latino Film Festival launching April 11th and going until the 22nd.

Chicago coffee lovers also have the April 12-14th specialty coffee expo to look forward to, with thousands of brewers to meet and flavors to taste. Looking for something a little more low-key? Over eight museums across Chicago are opening their doors to Illinois residents free of charge

May

May is the month for music fans and those looking to have some outdoorsy fun.

Enjoy latin hits and blood-pumping reggaeton in Grant Park with Sueños Music Festival from May 25-26th. Take part in Puerto Rican cuisine accompanied by handmade crafts and live music during Mole De Mayo, which goes from May 24-26th. The Memorial Day Parade will pass through Chicago on May 25th, and from May 17th through the 19th you can listen to the biggest hits in the city during the Chicago Mayfest.

Local vendors are opening up all across Chicago during May as well, with the Chicago Farmers’ Markets going from May all the way until October. Get first dibs on handmade crafts and flavor-packed street food at the Maxwell Street Market, or visit the Randolph Street Market to get your fill of niche items and antiques.

June-July

Nobody does summer like Chicago, and 2024 is living proof!

Take part in live music and dancing at the Chicago Pride Fest from June 22-23rd, or watch the best new films as they debut at the 2024 Sundance Institute in Chicago from June 28-30th. Ribfest Chicago boasts over 60,000 meat-lovers a year, and will be going on from June 14-16th as well.

You can brush up on your art history at this year’s Southport Art Fest from July 13-14th too, or get pumped up at Faces of Fitness from July 27-28th. Fill up on your street food at Taste of Lincoln Chicago, going from July 21st to 23rd and offering iconic cuisine throughout the city.

August

Lollapalooza, the Chicago Triathlon, and the Bud Billiken Parade are just a few of the many blockbuster events happening here in August 2024.

There might be more going on in June or July, but August has the biggest events in Chicago by far!

Lollapalooza needs no introduction as one of the most famous music festivals in the world, and it will be coming to Chicago from August 1-4th. The Bud Billiken parade celebrates 95 years of celebration on August 10th with one of the largest parades in the country, as well. Watch top athletes compete from around the world at the Chicago Triathlon starting August 24th, or enjoy a mesmerizing beachside view during the Lakefront Chicago Air and Water Show for free on August 10-11th.
